Hope Spot 28 – Your headline of hope

A special headline for all you do for children of war in Ukraine

On Saturday, our newspaper here in Adelaide had a full-page story on a charity that is rebuilding classrooms in Ukraine.

There were lots of photos, support from politicians, and a big headline:

Smiles at last as kids
of war return to school

While I was excited to see the coverage given to this work …

… I had a twinge of envy that the work you do through ALWS for children of war in Ukraine doesn’t get the same headlines.

For more than two years now, through ALWS and our partner LWF, people like you have:

  • welcomed Ukrainian families fleeing into border countries like Poland

  • supported emergency relief supplies

  • renovated bombed-out apartments in Kharkiv, 40km from the Russian border

  • converted school basements and bomb shelters into underground classrooms

  • offered no-strings-attached love and kindness to children of war

Your hands-on help is humble, and perhaps that’s why you get no headlines.

Something that speaks louder than words are the results of your ALWS action. You’ll see this when you read the Ukraine Impact Report of ACT Alliance, the partnership you are part of through ALWS.

ACT Alliance brings together churches of many denominations from around the world, to respond as one to emergencies.

This is a powerful witness of love and service!

At a practical level, working through the ACT Alliance has strong benefits:

  • your help gets right to the front line, where you are needed most

  • you have more impact, because working together means we can get economies of scale

  • your help is delivered by local people who know, and are trusted by, the community

  • we model to the world a unity of purpose in Christian kindness

That’s why I encourage you read the Impact Report, so you see can how this partnership makes YOU a headline of hope …

… and a blessing ALWayS for children of war in Ukraine! Thank you!

PS:  I did write a Letter to the Editor, telling them about what people like you do through ALWS to help children of war in Ukraine – but they didn’t publish it. That’s why I urge you to read your ACT Alliance Ukraine Impact Report and watch this seven minute video showing the impact of your kindness! Thank you!
